“when the unexpected happens you need to be prepared”
Free Workshop
Let’s see what happened in Spain and Portugal on xx April 2026. At lunchtime the internet went off. I was working from home on my laptop and I suddenly had no connection. That was not by itself unusual. Portugal has localized power cuts quite often, usually for a couple of hours, so I did not think anything of it. I didn’t have the light on as it was daytime. I worked for an hour and then went out to grab some lunch.
I needed petrol too. The first thing I noticed was that the petrol station was closed so I went to another. There as a queue, a long one. Thinking that maybe there was a petrol strike I drove around looking for another petrol station. I found one that appeared open. As I got out the attendant explained that the was a nationwide power outage that included Spain and pats of France. I did get petrol in the end, from the motorway. They only accepted cash payments as the card readers were down. And I could not get ore cash as the ATM’s didn’t work. That outage lasted till 10 pm. Of course we didn’t know how long it would last. At home we couldn’t heat food, and the food in the freezer started to defrost. We had no coffee, and could only eat bread and cheese! I’ve just given you a taste of what happened and if you want to read the full account my book is here. We think it’s so important to read that we give it away for free too with some of our products so don’t buy it yet – keep reading.
After this we started buying things and keeping them at home so the next time it happens we’ll be prepared. We’re worked our way though what you need for 3 days without electricity, a week-10 days without electricity and what you need if you suddenly have to go.
We live in uncertain times. There is disruption from climate change, threats of social unrest or even of war. Portugal floods, France fire, Spain power outage
Two themes run though this – it’s quick and you should be prepared. You might need to stay in place and you might need to leave. Ask yourself, are you ready? If the unexpected happens, what will you do?
Making decisions when you’re under pressure or stressed is not the best way. So we’ve prepared them for you.
